For a garden badminton net, choose a freestanding portable net with its own posts, such as the one in the Yonex GR 303S outdoor set, which includes four rackets, shuttles, a net and posts. For schools and junior clubs, the Yonex GR-202 ST club set includes 20 rackets, two nets and nylon shuttles in one carry bag. For a full court, check the net is at least 6.1m wide and set at the correct height. Our badminton net guide, net height guide and badminton sets guide explain more. Badminton Net FAQs
How high is a badminton net?
Under the Laws of Badminton the top of the net should be 1.55m from the floor at the posts and 1.524m at the centre of the court. Garden games do not need to be exact, but setting your net close to these heights helps players get used to proper match conditions.
How wide is a badminton net?
A full badminton net should be at least 6.1m wide so it covers the full width of a doubles court, with a depth of 760mm. Many portable garden nets are narrower than this, which suits smaller gardens, beaches and parks where there is less space.
Can you use a badminton net outdoors?
Yes. Portable badminton nets with their own posts are designed for gardens, parks and beaches. Choose a sheltered spot, as wind affects both the net and the shuttle, and use nylon shuttles outdoors because they handle grass and breezy conditions better than feather.
Is a tennis net the same as a badminton net?
No. A tennis net is much heavier and hangs lower, at around 0.914m at the centre, while a badminton net is lighter, narrower and set at 1.524m in the centre. A badminton net or set is the better choice for playing badminton at home.
