An overgrip is a thin wrap that goes over your existing grip to add tack and absorb sweat, and is replaced often. A replacement grip swaps out the base grip on your badminton racket to restore cushioning and size. Choose tacky overgrips if you like a secure, sticky feel, or a dry finish if your hands sweat. Each overgrip adds a little thickness, so players with small hands often regrip with one thin layer. Our badminton grip guide shows how to regrip and pick a size. For absorbent cotton grips see badminton towel grip, or browse our full grips and grip tape range for every racket sport. Our team in Cardiff, Birmingham, Milton Keynes and Hereford can advise in store, and we deliver across the UK.
Badminton Overgrip FAQs
What is the difference between an overgrip and a replacement grip?
A replacement grip is the thicker, cushioned base grip wrapped directly onto the racket handle. An overgrip is a thin layer that goes over the top to add tack and absorb sweat. Overgrips are cheaper and changed more often; replacement grips are changed when the cushioning has worn out.
How often should you change your badminton overgrip?
Change your overgrip when it loses its tack, feels slippery or starts to tear. Players who train several times a week often change it every week or two, while occasional players may go longer. A fresh overgrip is one of the cheapest ways to improve control.
Should I use a tacky or dry overgrip?
Tacky overgrips give a secure, slightly sticky feel and suit most players. Dry overgrips absorb moisture and suit players whose hands sweat heavily, as a tacky grip can become slippery when wet. Towel grip is another option for very sweaty hands.
Can you put an overgrip on top of another overgrip?
Yes. Some players add a second overgrip to build up a thin handle. Each layer adds thickness, so check the size feels comfortable and lets you change grips quickly between forehand and backhand. If the handle feels too big, remove a layer.
