The Optimum Razor Rugby Shoulder Pads Top is the body-armour vest from Optimum's Razor range, finished in black and red and cut for junior players. It is worn under the shirt, with padding built into the shoulders and collarbone area of a close-fitting top.
Key Features
- Padded shoulder top: a fitted vest with padding worked into the shoulder and collarbone panels.
- Worn under the playing shirt: sits against the base layer rather than over the top.
- Razor range: matches the rest of Optimum's Razor line, which also runs to headguards, shin guards and boots.
- Junior sizing: stocked in small junior and JL 12/13 fittings.
- Optimum product code RTBR: the manufacturer reference, kept for reordering.
Performance Overview
Body armour has to be tight to work. A loose vest rides up and the padding ends up somewhere other than the shoulder it was meant to cover, so the fit matters more here than on almost any other piece of rugby kit. The Razor top is a junior-cut vest, which means sizing it snugly rather than leaving room to grow.
Benefits
- Fitted cut keeps the padding where it was designed to sit.
- Worn under the shirt, so it does not change the look of the playing kit.
- Part of a range, so it can be matched with a Razor headguard.
- Priced for school and club colts squads.

Final Verdict
A junior shoulder pads top from a range clubs already buy in volume. Size it tight, wear it under the shirt, and pair it with the matching Razor headguard if you want the set.
